Alpha diversity of the R. flavipes hindgut fed multiple diets. The Shannon Index (H′) and Shannon Equitability (EH) metrics were used to calculate the diversity and evenness of the microbiota of the termite hindgut over 49 days when introduced to different diets and plotted using a box and whisker plot. A one-way ANOVA was used to compare the H′ and EH values from each diet to day 0 and showed no significant difference (p > 0.05). day 0 (n = 9), original mulch (n = 27), cardboard (n = 26), birch (n = 24), maple (n = 28), oak (n = 17), spruce (n = 24), and starved (n = 10)
